Saturday Blog – Another new site design?

This post's average rating is: 4

Time to start blogging again, what gets me excited to keep blogging is when people respond and say things back.

Not sure how many people will want to read this, but the hope is that people reach out and send DMs on Patreon for their thoughts so there is some feedback, ideas and most importantly, helping us understand what we can do to be the best producer we can be.

So, we started toying with a new site header design. While Fan Art is fun and it helps bring an audience through the hard work from the backs fo all those who did work on it before, OCs (original characters) are what really brings value to any collective, group, company, etc. Beyond that, having a FUN, interesting OC is more fun to write for, especially when its tailored for the niche.

So this is a concept that we had, take a look below and see if you can guess what it is

I am clearly not an artist

The idea would be that rather than having a focus on the tiles of comics, the focus would instead be on the characters.

This is the code example given to the developers

After a little bit of time and some hard work by our developer – we have a test site

Click here to see the demo version, and a screen shot below

below is the mobile preview

So, here is where we are at with this one

  • The idea is cool
  • The concept kind of works
  • Its a good way to keep focus and showcase the main characters, get people interested

However there are some downsides

  • Its not great for returning users who are in here day in and day out – how can they know what is new and what is not? These are the most important people
  • Where does all the other stuff go into? Should it eventuallly be abandoned? Are great things being abandoned?
  • The images on the front, should change often, or at least from time to time – that cost takes away from comic production

Lets get into the (presuamble) mindset of the returning visitor. They come and want to know – is there something new today? We would have to add on our functionality that we have on the site already, which adds a shade or opaqueness to previously viewed items

Additionally, in the center image, there should be text just like there is underneath the tiles of the site today, showing when the latest update was, and when the next update is.

So the question now – is this a step forward, or just another barrer in the way for quick content consumption
